Em Hough - Research Assistant/SURE Grant Participant
Em Hough has been working at the WVDP since the spring of 2016 and will graduate in 2018 with a double major in English and Sociology and dual minors in Women and Gender Studies and Queer Studies. In addition to their work at the WVDP, they tutor athletes at the university. Their academic focus thus far has revolved around examining the intersection between an Appalachian identity and queerness, and they have presented their research on LGBTQ+ in Appalachia at the Appalachian Studies Association’s 2017 conference in Blacksburg, VA.
Maggie McDonald - Lab Manager
Maggie McDonald is an English major and recent WVU graduate, starting her Master of Public Administration in the fall. She joined the WVDP as a TA in 2017, and has been working on everything from research with Praat to drawing pictures of vowels with legs since then. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, scouting her neighborhood for animals to pet, and making lengthy to do lists.
Sara McQueen - Research Assistant
Sara McQueen is a senior Secondary English Education major at WVU in the Benedum Collaborative 5-Year Teacher Education Program. Sara has been working at the WVDP since fall 2016. In addition to her work as a research assistant, Sara works as a writing tutor at the Eberly Writing Studio and as a resident assistant. In her free time, Sara pursues her passions for coffee, cats, and books by drinking maple lattes at The Grind and reading (preferably with her cats).
Jordan Miller - Research Assistant
Jordan Miller started working in the lab as a TA in spring of 2016. She is majoring in English - Professional Writing and Editing with minors in journalism, geography, and women’s and gender studies. She hopes to someday work in the nonprofit sector.
Mariah Morris - Research Assistant
Mariah Morris started in the lab in Spring 2017. She will graduate with two degrees: a BA in English and a BS in Biology. She currently works at a veterinary clinic, and hopes to become a physician and study medicine at WVU SOM.
Summer Phillips - Research Assistant
Summer Phillips started working for the WVDP in the summer of 2017. She is double majoring in English and Women and Gender Studies. Her goal is to become a playwright some day.
